Britain’s decision to leave the European Union will be put into effect tomorrow, leaving Liverpool one of the hardest hit areas of the UK in terms of employment and economy, it has been estimated that approximately 16,700 jobs will be lost across Merseyside as a result of a no deal Brexit.

Katarina Von Kray, an Liverpool John Moores student from Austria expressed her worry for the future of international students, as students from Europe studying in the UK are currently allowed to study here without a visa and are charged the same fees as British students. This is due to change for students enrolling in 2020, making it harder and more expensive to study in the UK if you are from Europe. This may deter people from making the decision to study here and have an impact on Universities across the UK. Miss Von Kray also added that she believes the prices of student friendly food shops such as Lidl and Aldi will rise due to the cost of importing goods into the UK, affecting the businesses and the people who shop there.

University Of Liverpool lecturer Dr. Lu Han composed a report on the effects of Brexit on the UK’s economy and found that the real issues and change will lie in the new trade laws that will be put in place.
