Netherton community horse sanctuary is asking for more volunteers and support as they fight to maintain their animals after the winter.
Shy Lowen Horse Sanctuary has pleaded on Facebook for more people to volunteer and support the charity as they struggle to cover the cost of their maintenance of the horses.
The winter has destroyed their fields and forced the horses to be fed more store bought goods rather than grass.
Since 1999 veteran’s and care homes have partnered with the charity to receive equine therapy.
The charity uses this method of therapy which involves a person bonding with a horse to understand the horses needs and in turn understanding their own.
the site was originally a illegal dumping ground but was bought by Bernadette and Erick Langfield, who created the sanctuary it is today.
They rescue abused and traumatised horses from previous owners and work with them and humans to heal both parties.
Volunteers have been coming to the sanctuary from the very beginning to help support the work they do in the local community.
Along with working with local Veterans home Thomas House they organise school days out for children to come and work with the ponies.
They also set up show days that bring a lot of attention to the charity from possible trustees.
Once a horse is said to be healthy again they go out on loan to caring families who eventually adopt the horse.
